What to Wear for Your First Round
June 16, 2026
New to the game and terrified of arriving wrong? A short, unfussy list of what to buy first and what can wait a season.

You need far less than the internet suggests. Four pieces will get you through your first season looking like you belong there.
Buy first
- A skort you actually like. If you like it, you will play more.
- One collared or ruffle-collar top in white — it goes with everything you add later.
- Spikeless golf shoes. This is the purchase that affects your swing, not just the photos.
- A glove for your lead hand, and a visor or cap.
Buy soon
- A light knit layer for early tee times.
- An insulated bottle. Four hours in the sun is longer than it sounds.
- A belt, once you know whether you tuck.
Can wait
A bag, if your club rents them, and matching accessories. Those are the fun purchases, and they mean more once you know how you like to play.
Etiquette that matters more than clothes
Keep pace, repair your divots, stay still while someone swings, and put your phone away. Nobody notices a new player's outfit; they notice her pace.
