Cart Day vs Walking Day: Dress for the Round You Are Playing
August 12, 2026
Riding and walking make different demands on a fabric, a hem and a shoe. A short guide to choosing before you arrive rather than regretting at the turn.

Almost nobody dresses differently for a cart round and a walking round, and almost everybody should. The two days ask opposite things from an outfit.
Cart days
You sit for four hours in the sun with wind on one side of you. Wrinkle resistance matters more than breathability, and a hem that behaves when you slide in and out of a seat matters most of all.
- A pleated skort with a built-in short — no adjusting, ever.
- A layer you can leave on the seat without creasing it.
- A visor rather than a cap; it survives the wind and the seat back.
Walking days
Now it is about weight, chafe and heat. Choose the lighter knit, the shorter sleeve and the shoe you have already broken in.
- A sleeveless or short-sleeve top with a designed neckline for the dress code.
- Spikeless shoes with real cushioning — five miles is five miles.
- Nothing in your pockets. A carry bag pouch instead.
The pieces that do both
The pleated skort, the ruffle-collar polo, the gold buckle belt and white spikeless shoes work either day. If you buy the crossover pieces first, you stop making this decision at all.
